Poplar Bluff High School agriculture teacher Kathryn Clark received the Outstanding Woman in Ag award on Friday, Jan. 31, during the third annual farmer appreciation luncheon, sponsored by the University of Missouri Extension and the Chamber of Commerce, prior to the Ag Expo at the Black River Coliseum.

“Kathryn has helped her students to accomplish many different things during her 10 years of teaching high school agriculture, including winning a national dairy judging contest, state FFA officer, American FFA degree recipients, many district FFA career development event titles, and growing the Poplar Bluff agriculture program,” stated Juan Cabrera-Garcia, Extension horticulturist. “…Kathryn stays busy with her job wearing many hats to be able to grow a successful agriculture program including helping run the FFA organization, running a school greenhouse, being a PBRI school district ambassador, working to connect our agriculture program to the community, and serving on different committees and offices for the Missouri Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association.”

Clark said she would not have been able to enjoy such successes without her co-teacher Dean Lackey, the support of her school colleagues and family. Daughter of farmer Russell Savat, Clark is married to Alex, who is a row cropper south of town. Together they are raising two sons, Luke and Max.

Each year the Poplar Bluff FFA operates a booth at the Ag Expo, and helps host the cattle milking and FFA tractor driving contests.
