Poplar Bluff Senior High is competing for $10,000 against surrounding schools throughout the region in the Dr. Pepper Pigskin Points Contest.
The maroon bottle caps on associated products imprinted with football helmets are being collected through Friday, Dec. 14, in 50-gallon barrels located at Mules Stadium, in the PBHS front office or near the cafeteria stage. The Beta Club and the National Honor Society have teamed up to spearhead the contest to hopefully generate money for the student organizations.
“We are excited to see the community work together to help our school be successful in their contest,” said Instructional Coach Stephanie Kuper, Beta Club co-advisor. “With so much money at stake, we really want to ask the community to help us increase our chances of winning one of the top prizes for our division.”
Besides the grand prize, second place is $5,000 and third is $2,500. In addition, all participating schools in Missouri, Illinois and Arkansas will be entered into a random drawing for $500 to be awarded to three schools. Students also plan to participate in the accompanying barrel decorating contest for a chance to win another $500.
Qualifying products include Diet/Cherry/Dr. Pepper, Diet/7UP, Squirt, Crisp & Clear water, and Orange/Grape/Strawberry Crush. Pigskin Points caps can be found on 20-ounce, 16-ounce, 1-liter and 2-liter plastic bottles.
